Dr. Jonathan Fielden

Jonathan has worked for the Trust since 1998 as a consultant in anaesthesia and intensive care medicine and since 2008 has held the post of Director of Medical Education and Training.  In July 2009 Jonathan took over the role of acting Chief Medical Officer before being appointed to the permanent role in October.

In addition to his clinical roles Jonathan held the post of Chairman of the Central Consultants and Specialists Committee (CCSC), BMA until September 2009. He has worked on numerous national bodies on behalf of the Department of Health and advisory bodies to ministers and the Secretary of State for Health. Currently he is one of 2 professional members of the national Advisory Committee on Clinical Excellence Awards and is a Fellow of the National Leadership Council.  

Jonathan has responsibility for providing professional medical leadership and advice to the Board, clinical risk, clinical governance, research and education, doctor appraisal, talent management and professional standards.

As Director of Clinical Standards, he ensures that all systems and processes are in place for high quality, safe patient care, such as clinical governance, underpinned by clinical audit, as well as providing professional leadership of medical services, including the training and education of medical staff.  Jonathan also has responsibility to continued development of our research portfolio with an emphasis in building links with academic partners and the Thames Valley Health Innovation and Education Cluster (HIEC). With the executive team he is particularly focussed on developing and delivering the strategic aim of the Royal Berkshire as the “Third Centre” for South Central SHA. 

 He is married to Christine and between them they have 4 children. His interests are hill walking, swimming, travel, fine wine and skiing just a little bit slower than his eldest son.
